God is Faithful

"God is faithful, reliable, trustworthy, ever true to his promises and he can be depended on" (1.Corinthians 1:9 Amplified).

"God is faithful." We often say the words to each other. But what do they mean? Does it mean that God will shield us from trouble? That He will answer all our prayers?

David had a lot to say about God's faithfulness. The surprising thing is, he wrote many of his psalms while going through great difficulties. David was in a cave in the wilderness hiding from King Saul. He was innocent of any crime. In fact, he had served King Saul well. But when the people sang about David's victory over Goliath, Saul became intensely jealous. He saw David as a threat to his throne and determined to wipe him out. So, here was David, his reputation ruined, his life in danger, pouring out his heart to God.

Often he would conclude his prayers with a joyful declaration like the following:

"All the ways of the LORD are loving and faithful for those who keep the demands of his covenant" (Psalm 25:10).

"Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies" (Psalm 36:5).

"But you, O Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness" (Psalm 86:15).

What was David saying? God is faithfully working in all seasons of our life. Even when winds of adversity blow against us, God is present and God is working. As surely as spring follows winter, new life will follow. That's why, we can sing of the faithfulness of God - even from a cave.

~"Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness!" Morning by morning new mercies I see; All I have needed Thy hand hath provided, "Great is Thy faithfulness," Lord, unto me!"
